Rachel Garlin’s latest release The Ballad of Madelyne & Therese (2023) is a soundtrack
for the story of forbidden love. Thirteen songs artfully slung together with hemp-rope and
heart, the album hangs, swings and carries its weight like a messenger bag across your
back. Born and raised in Berkeley, Garlin’s expansive repertoire comes from folk and fans
out toward rock and roll, each song laced with her signature style of “denim and poetry” –
threads of textures and experiences and conversations woven into songs that feel artfully
succinct and deeply complete. Recent praise from the SF Chronicle, Americana
Highways, Pop Matters, and Bluegrass Situation highlight Garlin’s work as a constant
collaborator and dedicated community member in her San Francisco neighborhood where
she lives with her wife and kids. You can find her at www.rachelgarlin.com or on instagram
